Jutta Pfennig
Jutta is Werner's kickass sister and she is younger than Werner by two years. While at Children's House, she uses the radio that Werner fixes to listen to foreign radio broadcasts even after they are banned. Unlike Werner, Jutta thinks for herself and gets suspicious of Nazi propaganda and tries to persuade Werner from attending Nazi school. Although Werner wouldn't listen to her, she still writes letters to him throughout his time at school and in the military. During the war, Jutta makes war socks for the soldiers. Later on, she is moved to work at a factory to make machine parts with Frau Elena and three other girls and gets raped by the Russians. She grows up to become an algebra teacher She marries an accountant named Albert Wette and together they have a son named Max. A few years after Werner dies, Jutta meets Volkheimer who gives her Werner's belongings from the war and tells her of how Werner fell in love at Saint-Malo. Jutta finds the wooden model of the house in Werner's backpack and returns it to Marie.
